Your Prior Knowledge:

Basic riding technique skills are required. You should have already ridden simple trails and be able to handle them confidently. Proper braking, the basic riding position, and cornering should not pose difficulties for you. The Riding Starter Course is designed as an introduction to Bikepark Winterberg.

Your Endurance:

You should spend time on your bike regularly. Although the lift is often available to us, we will occasionally push through some sections and ride multiple times.

Your Bike & Equipment:

We recommend fully suspended All-Mountain, Enduro, Downhill, and Freeride bikes for the course with 140mm of travel or more. Additionally, Bikepark Winterberg requires the use of a full-face helmet.

If you don’t have a suitable bike, you can add one from our mobile rental service in Winterberg. There, you’ll also find a selection of full-face helmets. This rental equipment is reserved for you, and the trainer will hand it over to you at the beginning of the course. Here is the link to our rental.

Alternatively, you can also rent equipment on-site at the Bike Station. Be aware that due to high demand, it might not be available in sufficient quantity on the morning of the course. You can find information about the Bikepark’s rental equipment here.

We begin with a brief introduction round and adjust the setup of your bikes. Following that, we focus on the fundamentals of cornering, manual impulses, and jumping. Next up in the Riding Technique Starter Course at Bikepark Winterberg is the practice course. Here, we can optimize jumping techniques and gradually progress through the drop battery. During this phase, we also have the opportunity to examine and refine your exercises and movements in detail through video analysis.

After a short breather, we continue in the bike park! Together, we explore various trails, their obstacles, jumps, and turns, applying our newly acquired techniques. We make occasional stops during the descents. While descending, the trainer observes and provides instructions for an even smoother flow!

In the Riding Technique Training at Bikepark Winterberg, we primarily ride on the following trails: Flow Country, Kyrhill, Farytrail & Schneewitchen.

The emphasis of the Starter Riding Technique Course is clearly on fun! The goal is for you to confidently maneuver your bike in Bikepark Winterberg with a big grin on your face!

Can I take the Riding Technique Starter Course at Bikepark Winterberg without prior knowledge?

Yes and no. If you are confident in the content covered in the Basic Course and have already gained experience on easy trails, you can participate in the Riding Technique Starter Course at Bikepark Winterberg without having taken a previous course. If you have little to no experience on a mountain bike, we recommend starting with an MTB Basic Course as an introduction.

What protective equipment do I need for the Riding Technique Course at Bikepark Winterberg?

Since 2020, Bikepark Winterberg has implemented a mandatory requirement for a Fullface helmet with a visor. Riding in the bike park is not allowed without such a helmet. Starting this season, we have set up our own bike rental service in Winterberg, where you can rent high-quality FOX Fullface helmets. These helmets are available only in combination with a course booking and are disinfected and cleaned after each day of use. Here is the link to our rental service.

I can’t decide between two levels.

Our course concept builds on the knowledge gained in previous courses. While we assume certain fundamentals in the courses, we also revisit them at times. If you find it challenging to choose between two levels, we recommend starting with the lower level. In this case, that would be the MTB Basic Course. Our trainers will ensure that you stay engaged and challenged, even at the introductory level.

Is the lift ticket included in the course?

No. Experience has shown that it is easier for participants to handle their own lift tickets. Some participants stay in Winterberg for the entire weekend and have a weekend pass, while others may have a season pass. Some participants may qualify for the youth rate due to their age. Additionally, many participants may wish to continue riding on their own after the course. Therefore, we have decided to offer the courses without including the lift ticket. For the Bikepark Riding Technique Starter in Winterberg, a 10-ride pass per person is sufficient. You can find the lift prices (here).

How many minimum participants are required for the Riding Technique Starter Course at Bikepark Winterberg?

The Riding Technique Starter Course takes place with a minimum of 3 participants.

What is the maximum number of participants in the Riding Technique Starter Course at Bikepark Winterberg?

We believe that small groups provide the best learning experiences. Therefore, we work in small groups with a maximum of 7 participants per guide in the Riding Technique Starter Course.

What happens in bad weather?

A bit of rain won’t stop us from outdoor sports. If there is a severe weather warning, the Riding Technique Starter Course at Bikepark Winterberg will be postponed. Participants will receive a voucher and can flexibly choose a new date.

At what age can I participate in the courses?

Participants aged 12 and above are welcome to join the courses. We encourage teenagers to come accompanied by an adult. For younger Bikepark enthusiasts, we offer Bikepark Kids Basic (8-12 years) and Bikepark Kids Advanced (8-12 years) courses in Winterberg. We are happy to conduct family courses within the framework of private lessons. The average age of participants ranges from 20 to 55 years. Experienced bikers are also warmly welcomed in our courses.

Is wearing a helmet mandatory?

Yes! Unfortunately, without a helmet, we cannot allow participation in our Bikepark Starter Course in Winterberg.

Do I need additional protective gear?

We strongly recommend knee or knee-shin protectors for the course. These can be partially rented from our mobile rental service, and if needed, are available at the Bike Station as well. We also explicitly recommend using a back protector.

Am I insured for accidents through you?

No, unfortunately not. We kindly ask you to arrange your own accident insurance.

Is there a lunch break? Do we stop for a meal?

Yes. We recommend bringing energy bars, sandwiches, and drinks. Alternatively, we can make a stop at the Biker Snack Bar in Bikepark Winterberg. A break of up to 30 minutes is included in every course.

Can the trainer accommodate my preferences?

Certainly, we are happy to tailor our daily program to the participants‘ preferences. Each course includes reserved time for specific requests. If you have very specific topics that interest you or if you want to work intensively on a particular skill area (e.g., cornering), we recommend a Private Course.

Which pedals are most suitable for the Riding Technique Starter Course at Bikepark Winterberg?

In Bikepark Winterberg at Erlebnisberg Kappe in Sauerland, we recommend platform/flat pedals.

What clothing is appropriate?

(Tighter, but doesn’t have to be skin-tight) Sportswear or cycling clothing is suitable. A thin windproof or rain jacket can be helpful in changing weather conditions. Shoes should be athletic shoes/hiking shoes with a sturdy sole. Of course, cycling shoes are optimal, and we recommend brands like Five.Ten (5.10), Shimano, or Specialized.

What else should be brought to the Riding Technique Starter Course at Bikepark Winterberg?

A spare tube for a flat tire should be on every bike or in every backpack. While the guide has spares, it’s always a good idea to have an extra tube just in case.
